Resources for Ambassadors

If each ambassador gets just *10 RESPONSES* - that will make a huge difference!
Whether you're organising a stand at a festival, or having a 1:1 chat with someone, the Scottish Food Coalition have created some resources to make engaging with the consultation easier. Have a look below to see a few ideas to help with running bigger, or smaller events and ways to get the conversation started.
Don't forget we're happy to help with any questions.

STEP 1:

GUIDE TO
RESPONDING
1 Copy for Ambassador
+ 1 Copy for every 3-4 attendees
Ambassadors to read through the guide to responding before and during their event. The guide explains the consultation questions and provides ideas for responses. Ambassadors can use this background information to support their discussions.

STEP 2:

Note taking sheet
1 Copy for each attendee
This provides the space for each attendee to take notes while the ambassador explains the consultation questions. It also have a quick reminder of what the questions are asking.

STEP 3:

Response form
1 Copy for each attendee
Ambassadors to print a copy for each attendee. The response form needs to be completed with participant's answers, and identification information. Completed forms must be collected and submitted to the Scottish Government:

Running a bigger event?

If you're taking a stall at a festival, or you're expecting a big crowd, then you might find it easier to ask people to cast their votes using bean counters. All you need is to download and print the posters, use 13 cups, and a bag of beans!

Once you have printed off the posters, and hung them up - put a cup underneath each arrow that says "Agree" or "Disagree" then when people come back your stand, give them a few beans and ask them to cast their vote! Only one bean per question. Ambassadors will be around to help explain the questions, and can refer back to the guide to responding if they get stuck.

At the end of the event - do a bean count! See how many responses you got for the different questions, and use the information to submit a consultation response on behalf of the group. Remember to make note of how many people responded by counting the beans from the question that most people responded to. Don't forget, we can help with ambassador's printing costs - just keep your receipts, and submit an expenses claim form.

Not sure how to get the

 conversation started?

You might find it useful to show the image a good way to get a few ideas going.
The picture shows the current system on the left, with different plans and policies travelling in different directions that have led to lots of issues - this system treats food as a commodity.
The right of the image shows the future that a strong Good Food Nation Bill could lead. The plans and policies are all moving in the same direction - this system is based on the Right to Food, our human right to nutritious food that treats the people and planet fairly.

You can use this image to demonstrate that the Good Food Nation Bill is about taking a whole-systems approach, laying the groundwork and setting up the structures to make sure all future policies and legislation about specific issues (like waste or workers' rights) are moving in the right direction, and grounded in the right principles.
